Top Myths about Cannabis

Cannabis is still considered esoteric by some people’s standards.

Here, we’ll go over the common myths that come with cannabis, and why they should be debunked as well.

It leads to Higher Crime

This is something that came about due to prohibition, where people think that if you start smoking weed, you’ll start doing coke and heroin. While gang violence is a part of the underbelly of the city, the use of cannabis doesn’t lead to crime, it’s the war on drugs and making it illegal that does.

Legal cannabis is taxed and licensed, and it takes out the black market retailers, and it also doesn’t have any connection to higher crime. Sure, the offenders may use cannabis, along with other drugs, but that doesn’t mean that it’s the cause of it.

It’s a Gateway Drug

There are still people giving the lecture that it’s just “one toke” that gets you hooked.
While the interpretations may vary, they think that just one touch of a drug will get you hooked.

Millions who use this enjoy it regularly without even thinking about harder drugs, since most who use this may not even touch cannabis either.

It’s Dangerous and Addictive

This is a claim where they think you’re going to have a huge addiction.
This is something that’s different from cocaine because it usually doesn’t cause addiction that’s severe, along with other withdrawal portions either.

It’s not Addictive

While many may smoke weed without the addictive parts, there are some who may become dependent, which is different from addiction.

How addiction gets defined and to what degrees is based more on a more complex series of factors, but while some advocates may deny this, there is also some science which says that cannabis won’t be perfect.

While weed does help people, there is cannabis disorder, which is due to the excessive dopamine, but this isn’t something that’s unique to cannabis, it can be for other kinds of addictions too.

It’s possible to OD on Cannabis

Many lives get lost due to other hard drugs, but almost nobody dies from cannabis consuming alone, since most of the constituents within this are not responsible for breathing and other interference.
Regarding opioids, OD does happen when the receptors are overwhelmed, which can lead to major depressive elements. But cannabis doesn’t have those same effects, which is the reason for no cannabis deaths reported.

The Users are Lazy

There are a lot of people who think those that use cannabis are addicts or junkies, and they’re called lazy.

Sure, some people may have too much and they may just get couch locked in a few hours, but a lot of people are successful and active users who use cannabis.  Joe Rogan, Michael Phelps, and others are able to do what they do while also having a bit of cannabis every now and then.

Indica and Sativa Dichotomy

Finally, this is the last myth we’ll touch.

There are people who think that only indica and sativa matter, but the thing is, there are certain varieties that can stone your body and mind which are considered sativas, while there are others that may be energizing indicas.

This is because of the terpenes and other parts of the plant.

Instead of just looking at one part vs. the other, you should look at each of the different parts, and also see what other chemicals are in it, since the terpenes and flavonoids are kind of the main reason for why the medical marijuana may affect a user in a different sort of way than others do.
